This was on the front page of today's Union Leader:

LIZ NELSON WASN'T working yesterday morning for the grand opening of the new diner at the Quirk Chevrolet Buick dealership on Manchester's South Willow Street, but she was there anyway and looking forward to her eventual first shift.

"It's new and I'm going to love it," Nelson said.

Nelson is one of a handful of clients from the Moore Center that will be staffing the small, 1950s-style diner that features chrome fixtures, neon lights and a breakfast and lunch menu of sandwiches, salads and desserts to serve the dealership's customers and 150 employees.

It is another triumph in the Moore Center's quest to help people with developmental disabilities find work, made possible by the initiative of one of the city's newest businessmen.

Centrix Bank gave $5,000 to Moore Center Services in support of the agency’s Family Support program. Moore Center serves seniors, children and individuals with developmental disabilities in Greater Manchester. Family Support serves over 900 clients and their families.

“We are proud to support Moore Center Services,” said Joseph P. Reilly, President and CEO of Centrix Bank. “The work they do is so beneficial to our community.”

Fourth Session:

April 25, 2008
4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Located at Moore Center Services
IDS Day Program at
97 Eddy Road

Each month animal therapy sessions will be held at the above location with trained therapy dogs. Each session will last one hour long and include opportunities to get to know the dogs through play, petting, walking, grooming, etc.

Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a type of therapy that involves an animal with specific characteristics becoming a fundamental part of a person's treatment or service delivery. Animal-assisted therapy is designed to improve the physical, social, emotional, and/or cognitive functioning of the client, as well as provide educational and motivational effectiveness for participants. AAT can be provided on an individual or group basis.
