Creating Those Opportunities...

A major element of Moore Center Services is its Individual Development Services (IDS) department. IDS operates as the agency's own "Day Services" program and is, in fact, considered a vendor. Parents and guardians can choose to contract with Moore Center Services to provide the day-to-day needs of their respective clients.

This is a program that is always evolving, striving to meet the needs of the clients. Out of the broad designation of "IDS," several offshoots emerge, offering clients a diverse selection. One group, the Seniors, primarily serves the elderly contingent, providing a social and communal opportunity for clients. Paralleling this is the regular Day Services portion, which serves clients of all ages. Both programs offer regular field trips, games, some karaoke here and there, and learning-based activities.

For Day Services in particular, this latter aspect represents a conscious trend in service delivery. Curriculum is focused on giving clients the opportunity to learn daily living skills as well as offering them classes in reading, writing, numbers, even computers.

Finally, the Career Development segment. Here higher-functioning clients, looking to acquire employment within the community, engage in classes and programs designed to get them into the work-force. Staff work closely with clients to help achieve these goals--whether it's facilitating interviews with potential employers or getting them plugged into trial situations, like Addie's Cafe, the on-site, full-service eatery here at the agency.

Whatever the program, each aspect of Individual Development Services is geared toward giving our clients the best shot at an opportunity for a good life.
